At last the weather is a bit more like spring, and so with some members of the bee team, we transferred the nuc colonies into their new larger National hives. They were very laid back, and soon settled, quickly bringing in pollen, a great sign that all is well in the colony and the Queen is laying as the bees use the pollen to feed the new larvae.
This is one of the worker bees with full pollen baskets on her legs and covered in pollen! She has almost certainly been visiting the churchyard where all the spring crocus is in full bloom! Bees can forage up to 3 miles from the hive if they find a good source of pollen or nectar.
