Fin and Mason inspect Hive number 1 to see how the bees are settling in. They assess if they need any additional food. If our bees did need a bit of extra feeding, at this time of year we would give them solid 'fondant' (just like Royal icing on a Christmas cake!) Early spring can be a dangerous time for bees, as there a few flowering plants, the weather is unpredictable, especially in Cumbria! Our Queen has started to lay eggs, and the bees need plenty of food for themselves, the 'brood' (baby bees) and for Queen to lay lots of eggs to build the colony up for the summer. All was well! Our bees had lots of 'capped stores' (honey)
