Anti Racist Cumbria

Anti Racist Cumbria | LinkedIn

We are committed to Anti-Racist Cumbria’s aim of ‘tackling and ending racism through action and education to create a forward-thinking and actively anti-racist Cumbria, free from prejudice and systemic inequalities’.

Representation, Equality and Diversity underpin our curriculum offer. Everyone is welcome in our school; valued for who they are; respected for their beliefs and differing cultural heritage. We celebrate a multitude of famous people, celebrations, traditions, authors and cultures via our weekly assembly programme with our headteacher, Mrs. Middleton, being a huge advocate for reading as a life-skill and gateway to a successful future.

As a school, we know how important it is to help our children recognise and stand up against injustice. We have already audited our library to ensure our pupils have access to a wider variety of literature including books by black and brown authors, and worked with Year 5 pupils in RE to explore the Transatlantic Trade in Enslaved People and its impact on us today.

Mrs. Middleton engages with regular professional learning and development provided by the team at ARC to ensure school are doing all we can to promote justice, equality and kindness to all.

If you would like to know more about Anti-Racist Cumbria or how we are dealing with this issue in school, please do contact Mrs. Middleton or Mrs Wilkinson. More information about Anti-Racist Cumbria can be found on their website: https://antiracistcumbria.org
